Midkiff Family | Greensboro, NC

Hello, and happy Friday, friends! It has been an embarrassingly long time since I've blogged, and I wish I could say I had a truly wonderful excuse as to my absence here. To be honest, life just found a way of happening and getting in the way! I found out I was pregnant back in October, and Landon and I could not be more thrilled or thankful. Some of you may remember that we walked through a miscarriage last year (more details here), so as you can imagine, finding out that God blessed us with another chance to become parents was an absolute miracle and astounding answer to prayer. With that being said, my first trimester wasn't the easiest. I took a step back from the busyness of my own business and used the time to rest a little bit more and learn to rejoice in a bit of physical suffering. Soon after that, as they so often do, the holidays rushed upon me, and now I'm sitting on my couch wondering how in the world it's the middle of March! I've picked up the pace slightly since the start of the new year, and I have so many projects I am excited to show you. However, before I jump to those, there are a few shoots I never got around to blogging from 2016. I'm going to try to take a few weeks to share some of my favorites with you, and I'd like to start today with a shoot I did with the Midkiff family in Greensboro. I met Daniel and Tiffany through Mercy Hill Church, and I am absolutely in love with their little girl Adelaide. Adelaide just recently turned one (I'll share her one-year photo shoot on the blog soon!), and she is one of the most beautiful, joyful, and sweet little ladies I know. The images below were taken right around Adelaide's half birthday on a lovely day in the Greensboro Arboretum. I hope you enjoy a few of my favorites below!

Peoples Family | Reidsville, NC

Happy Friday! It seemed like the weather was finally going to cool off this week, which had me dreaming of all things fall (cooler weather; scarves and sweaters; and of course, the NC State Fair). While I'm definitely excited for fall, I can't say I'm that upset that it's back in the 90s today, since I'm not quite ready for summer to be over. It seems fitting then to share this poolside family photo shoot with you today. The Peoples family is one of my all-time favorite families, and I was super excited when Danielle mentioned doing a shoot with her two boys at the pool. If you're a parent (or a photographer), you how hard it is to get little ones to sit still long enough to take pictures. It's even worse when they are in uncomfortable clothing or in a location that's uninteresting to them. Photographing the boys at the pool was a brilliant solution, and I would highly suggest it for other families (especially on hot summer days!). Their two boys, Parker and Noah, were familiar with this spot (their Aunt's pool), so that made them very comfortable for the shoot. They also LOVE the water, so it made the shoot fun for them. Lastly, the pool setting provided for tons of natural, candid shots of the family having fun and interacting with one another. It makes my job so easy and fun when everyone is able to relax and have a good time. I met the Peoples family through my husband, Landon, because he and Chris went to college together. This shoot was even more special because Landon was able to join us. We were both able to get our Parker & Noah fix in, and then we were able to enjoy lunch with Chris and Danielle after the shoot. It doesn't get much better than quality time with good friends over hot dogs, chips and ice cream. I'm beyond thankful for days like these, which is why I'm hanging on to every bit of summer while it lasts! I hope you all enjoy the moments below.

Loucks Family | Greensboro Maternity Session

Summer 2016. When I think about some of the defining moments of this summer, there's quite a list that comes to mind. I think of the life-changing trip Landon and I took to the Middle East. I think of the joys of watching the Rio Olympics these past few weeks (hello, Simone Biles). I think of the blast I had in Ohio at one of my best friend's weddings. I think of the sweet times I had with friends and family at the beach, in Charlotte and in the good ole Gate City. Last and certainly least, I think about Pokémon Go. Yes, you read right, Pokémon Go. While you will not find this game on my personal cellular device, Pokémon Go still found a way to infiltrate my summer. Back in July, I had the opportunity to photograph a maternity session for my good friends Phil & Shannon Loucks. We shot in the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden, which is typically very beautiful and serene. The beauty was definitely still intact for our shoot, but I can't say that our evening was very serene, since the entire garden was overflowing with Pokémon Go players. Phil, Shannon and their little girl Abigail were all troopers though, and they handled both the crowd and the July heat like champs. I always cherish the time I get with this family. We've been friends for a while now through Mercy Hill Church, and my soul always finds refreshment when I get the chance to catch up with the Loucks. I was honored to be able to capture this special time for their family, and I can't wait to meet their new little guy soon! I hope you all enjoy the moments below.
